Natasha Mitchell Biography
Australian science writer Natasha Mitchell works in the field. Presenting lectures, panels, and podcast episodes on concepts or concerns, the Radio National program Big concepts was first introduced by Australian journalist Paul Barclay, and she is currently its host. Mitchell served as a 2005–2006 Knight Science Journalism Fellow. In 2009, she was chosen to serve on the executive board of the Federation. From 2019 to 2021, she served on the founding committee of the Australian Science Journalists Association.
Natasha’s articles and interviews explore a wide range of subjects with an emphasis on science, culture, and society, such as feminism, public health, space exploration, the intersex experience, photojournalism, sensory experiences, and journalism ethics. Natasha Mitchell Education
Mitchell holds a first-class engineering degree from Monash University and a postgraduate diploma in scientific communication from the Australian National University, where she also participated in a national tour with the Questacon Scientific Circus. She worked at the University of Technology, Sydney’s Woman in Engineering coordinator before going into journalism and after giving up on her engineering PhD.

In collaboration with the BBC World Service, Natasha co-produced and delivered the four-part series Parched Lands in 2004. The show won the Gold World Medal (Environment category) at the 2005 New York Radio Festivals and visited desert regions in China, India, the United States, and Australia’s Red Center.
Natasha was on the Human Genetics Advisory Committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council (2009–2011). She was a founding committee member of the Science Journalists Association of Australia (2019–21), and a board member and vice president of the World Federation of Science Journalists fromthe year 2009 to 2013. She co-edited the 2013 edition of The Best Australian Science Writing.
